Article 9: Trump, Johnson Push Back on AI Industry Concerns

President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson have both signaled skepticism toward growing public concern over the pace of AI development, framing much of the pushback as overblown. The comments fit a broader pattern from the administration, which has consistently prioritized maintaining America’s competitive edge in AI over calls for stronger oversight, including previously shelving a planned executive order on AI safety out of concern it could slow the industry down.

The stance puts the White House at odds with some state and local officials, along with parts of the banking and cybersecurity sectors, who have raised concerns about the pace of AI capability gains outstripping safety and oversight infrastructure. The tension between speed and caution remains one of the defining fault lines in U.S. AI policy heading into next year.
